My name is Sydney Levy. I am for 15-11. I am Jewish, a graduate of Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Those that say that divestment will harm interfaith relations fail to recognize that American Jews are not a monolithic block and in fact positions are changing. Here’s an example. Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, who used to be at the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, opposed divestment in 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. He says today—and I agree—that “to their credit, the churches have gathered a full record of failed corporate engagement and have experienced years of frustrated shareholder resolutions … Now that these steps have failed, it is time to move to the inevitable next step, and that is divestment. Not doing so puts at risk the integrity of the whole socially responsible investment model.” MRTI has carried its job faithfully and with integrity. Thanks.
